Residents are now required by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to document their training activities and progress. Launched this month by RSNA in cooperation with the Association of Program Directors in Radiology, My Portfolio allows you to enter and monitor educational milestones including your case logs, credentials and evidence of scholarly activity on one convenient page.
“A well-maintained learning portfolio is documentation of what one has learned,” said Michael P. D'Alessandro, M.D., of the University of Iowa, who helped RSNA develop the portfolio. “I would advise residents to start their portfolio early in their residency, to get in the habit of updating it on a regular basis, and to add small pieces of information to it with each update. Doing this will ensure that at the end of four years, there will be a large amount of useful information in it and they will be in the habit of updating a learning portfolio, which will most likely be an important part of the Maintenance of Certification process in the future.”

Registration and course enrollment for RSNA 2008—FREE for students, RSNA members and RSNA members-in-training—are now in full swing. Experience the most significant and spectacular annual event in the field of radiology. Register online now. Residents and fellows will find many courses and sessions relevant to them:

Radiation Dose Focus of Physics Tutorial for Residents
Patient dose will be the topic of the Physics Tutorial for Residents, presented by RSNA and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) on Saturday, November 29, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at RSNA 2008. Residents will examine the magnitude of radiation dose in medical imaging, the benefits versus the risks and the steps required to monitor and reduce dose in daily practice.
Protect Your Health during Your Residency
A refresher course at RSNA 2008 identifies factors detrimental to residents’ health and presents practical methods to improve work environments, reduce stress and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Enroll now for RC202.
Resident Perspective Considered in Radiology Fellowship Match
Breakout session C of the Radiology Fellowship Match course (RC802) at RSNA 2008 is intended to help attendees understand the resident perspective on the fellowship match process. Breakout sessions A and B will present the pros and cons of the residency placement program.

The editors of Radiology and RadioGraphics recommend the following new content especially for residents and fellows:
The July-August issue of RadioGraphics will be available July 22 at RSNA.org/radiographics.
The Right Way to Breathe
Inadequate respiratory maneuvers can lead to misinterpreted CT scans. A hands-on guide in RadioGraphics tells radiologists and technologists how to give their patients the best respiratory instructions and get the best results.
Imaging Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
MR promises more comprehensive treatment for women with pelvic floor dysfunction. RadioGraphics shows you current MR imaging protocols, interpretation methods and techniques for guiding surgical intervention.
Learn to Spot Cholangiocarcinoma Mimics
The ability to distinguish inflammatory biliary disorders and pseudotumors from the more ominous cholangiocarcinoma is crucial to your patients’ treatment and peace of mind. Cholangiocarcinoma’s radiological mimics are detailed in the July-August issue of RadioGraphics.

Detect Invasive Breast Cancers Early
Review for Residents in the July issue of Radiology provides a practical approach to detecting and managing breast masses and focal asymmetries in a diagnostic setting and correctly applying BIRADS assessment and recommendation categories for invasive ductal carcinoma.

Deadline is July 15 for Introduction to Academic Radiology
Introduction to Academic Radiology shows second-year residents how to pursue exciting, successful careers as radiology researchers. The course deadline is fast approaching; apply now.
